Los Angeles Abrasion Machine

Los Angeles Abrasion Machine

The Los Angeles abrasion test is widely used as an indicator of relative quality of aggregates such as crushed stone, slag, and gravel. Test measures degradation of standard gradings of aggregates when subjected to abrasion, attrition, impact, and grinding in a rotating steel drum containing an abrasive charge of steel balls of specific size and weight.

Up to 12 balls are used, depending on size gradation of test sample. This new design integrates sound and mechanical safety features, with total control from outside a sound enclosure. An electrical interlock allows the machine to operate only when the double hinged lid is closed. Drum is positioned for loading and unloading using a jog button while watching for a colored indicator through a viewing window in the enclosure. Sound is absorbed by the heavy painted steel enclosure with sound attenuating foam and membrane lining.

An abrasive charge is included, consisting of 12 hardened steel balls of 1-27/32” (46.8mm) diameter totaling 5000 ±25g. Heavy-duty catch pan with handle measures 24x26x2.5" (610x660x63mm) and is 18.5 lb (8.4kg) net weight. The ACM-HM-70A measures 38x40x46.5" (965x1016x1181m). Shipping Data: 1080 lb (491kg); Cu. Ft.: 58.
